TRINITY BOUNCE BACK WITH A VENGEANCE

Trinity’s Under-17 cricketers put their recent bad form behind them and came back in style to score a 26-run win over Dharmaraja in their second round match at the Asgiriya Stadium.

Put into bat, Trinity reached a modest 139. Poorna Wanasekera top-scored with 33, while there were twenties from Senadheera and Dissanaike.

Paceman Navinda Dilshan troubled the batsmen and finished with a four-wicket haul.

Seemingly inadequate as the total was, it was made to look unreachable when the Rajans had collapsed to 73-9. However, the last pair of Kanishka Bandara (the top-scorer in the match with an unbeaten 42) and Shamil Keheliya (11) advanced the score, by using careful methods, to 113 – forty runs for the last wicket.

Dharmaraja’s mighty pair of Udangamuwe and Gunawardena were able to score only 12 and 13 respectively.

Pacie Ruvin Peiris (3-25) was the most successful bowler.
