Ruwantha Hathurusighe’s Kingswood team did something special in their Big Match against Dharmaraja at the Pallekelle Stadium.
For years, the underdog, Kingswood, with a good team effort, were able to take a psychologically important 33-run lead on the first innings.
Former skipper Tharindu Liyanage showed how runs could be obtained from this Rajan attack. Hathurusinghe and Walisundara were not slow to respond.
Pacie Aludeniya, offie Rajapakse and left-armer Pupulewatte were among the wickets.
Opener Pupulewatte had a fine game with the bat, scoring 75 and 46 in his two innings.
Dharmaraja 167 and 96-3 (Ruchira Pupulewatte 46, Bhavantha Udangamuwa 28, Nivantha Herath 13)
Kingswood 200-9 decl. (Dilshan Walisundera 38, Ruwantha Hathurusinghe 36, Tharindu Laiyaange 56, Vimukthi Wijesiriwardena 14, Duleen Wijenarayana 11; Chaturanga Aludeniya 3-37, Ashmita Rajapakse 3-31, Ruchira Pupulewatte 2-18)
