Dharmaraja News
Ruchira, Venuka spin them out

Dharmaraja’s total of 319 looked gettable when the visiting Wattala Anthonians were very well placed at 213-3. But they reckoned without the capabilities of left-armers Ruchira Pupulewatte (5-80) and Venuka Galahitiyawa (4-72) who spun out the remaining seven batsmen for the addition of only 29 runs.

Thus, the Rajans overcame several anxious moments to register a first-innings win over their opponents at Lake View.

Galahitiya did not rest on his laurels having scored an invaluable 92 to dig his team out of a hole the previous day. He added a four-wicket bag. Pupulewatte took a five for and made an unbeaten 63 in his second knock to go with his earlier 35.

Asira Wadeesha (87 with 13 boundaries) took the batting honours for the visitors. Skipper Shalith Himanka also came up with a good innings of 69 (4x11). Together, they added 116 for the fourth wicket.

Scores:

Dharmaraja 319-9 decl. and 127-1 (Ruchira Pupulewatte 63 n.o., Bhavantha Udangamuwa 40; Kavindu Maduka 1-32)

St. Anthony’s, Wattala (48-1 contd.) 242 (Asira Wadeesha 87, Shalith Himalka 69, Pavan Prabash 42; Ruchira Pupulewatte 5-80, Venuka Galahitiyawa 4-72)
