Dharmaraja News
Time runs out for the Rajans

Dharmaraja’s cricketers carried too many guns for their opponents, Nalanda, and, by the close, were within striking distance of an upset at Lake View.

Having bowled out their opponents for 166, the Rajans drove home the advantage by running up a massive 294 – a lead of 128.

Kavinda Ratnayake’s 51 was the top score of the innings. However skipper Tharusha Weragoda’s belated return to form with 48, must have pleased the Rajans no end. Late order batsmen Lahiru Samarakoon and Nipuna Herath contributed substantially. Ayantha de Silva, a fast medium bowler, was the top wicket-taker with 4-44.

Hasitha Raveen (44) Roshan Kumara (35) and Lakshita Rasanjana (35 not out), put their heads down and batted with determination to thwart the Rajans.

Tireless, Venuka Galahitiyawa finished with a match-bag of six wickets.

Scores:

Nalanda 166 and 141-6 in 63 overs (Hasitha Raveen 45, Roshan Kumara 34, Lakshita Rasanjana 35 n.o., Venuka Galahitiyawa 3-53)

Dharmaraja (111-3 contd.) 294 in 69.4 overs (Kavinda Ratnayake 51, Deshan Gunasinghe 21, Tharusha Weragoda 48, Lahiru Samarakon 39, Nipuna Herath 30; Ayantha de Silva 4-44, Dilan Suraweera 3-65, Nimanka Ratnayake 2-34).
