TABLE TENNIS

Chamindu Tennekoon of Dharmaraja and Praveena Silva of Girls High School walked away with the open titles at the Kandy Mayor’s Cup Table Tennis Championships staged over two days at the Jagath Rajapakse International Stadium in Doluwa.

With National Champion Udaya Ranasinghe not competing due the O/L exam, the stage was set for another top-ranked player from Vidyaratha, Prasad Silva to bag honours. He duly obliged, beating Rajan Chamindu Tennekoon in the final of the Under 18 event.

That was as far as he got, for when it came to the final of the open event, left hander Chamindu Tennekoon got the better of him in five sets.
