The St. Sylvester’s–Dharmaraja match at the Pallekele Stadium was interestingly poised when heavy rain in mid afternoon put an end to the game.
First things first. Parakrama Tennekoon, an unbeaten 87 in 243 balls, was almost solely responsible for the Sylvestrians reaching 152 from the ruins of 13-4. A century was his for the taking, but a little negativity deprived him of that honour. Venuka Galahitiyawa (4) and Upulitha Rajapakse (3) were the destroyers.
The Rajan reply was dominated by an eye–catching innings from opener Deshan Gunasinghe. His driving down the ground was crisp and his shots were well timed. He retired at 42 because of stomach complaint.
St. Sylvester’s 136-8 o/n 152 all out in 90.5 overs (Parakarama Tennekoon 87n.o., Upulitha Rajapakse 3/08, Venuka Galahitiyawa 4/37, Ruchira Pupulewatte 2/36)
Dharmaraja 82 for 4 in 28.3 overs (Deshan Gunasinghe 42 retd (13x4s, 1x6), Kavinda Rathnayake 15, Venuka Galahitiyawa 10 n.o.; Nimesha Mendis 1/25, Lashan Buvaneka 1/11, Indunil Samarananda 1/12)
