Left-arm spinners Ruchiara Papulewatte and Venuka Galahitiyawa got together to doom the Vidyartha batsmen and skittle them out for a mere 99. Following on 110 runs behind, Vidyartha were 89-4 when rain put an end to the match around 3.45.
Papulewatte was almost unplayable as he sent down 18 overs to claim 5-20. Galahitiyawa did his bit at the other end and had 3-30.
Isuru Weerasinghe showed fighting qualities while making 26. Lakshman Upananda also made 26, the top score of the innings.
Following on, opener Kirishantha Jayasuriya restored a bit of pride to his team by making a 50-ball 50. The aggressive opener had seven fours and a six in his knock.
This is the second time in two years that the Rajans dominated this game but couldn’t finish off their opponents. They could blame the rain for this year’s draw.
