Brilliant left-arm spin bowling by Dharmaraja’s Venuka Galahitiyawa paved the way for his team to trump Kingswood by nine wickets with five over to spare in the 108 Big Match at Asgiriya.
Galahitiyawa mesmerised the batsmen to return near incredible figures of 19.1-10-18-7.
A top-score of 55 from Chandimal de Silva and useful contributions from Kavinda Rathnayake, Deneth Lanka and Thanusha Weragoda saw the winners take a small 26 run lead on first innings.
That proved to be more than enough when Galahitiyawa began to work his magic.
After Kingswood were shot out for 79 runs, Ramesh Ranasinghe with an aggressive 31 not out took Dharmaraja to victory.
This is Dharmaraja’s third win in last four years.
Kingswood 203 and 79 in 47.1 overs (Shanuka Rathnayake 20, Tharindu Liyanage 23; Venuka Galahitiyawa 7/18, Sapumal Tennakoon 3/12)
Dharmaraja 229 in 65.5 overs (Chandimal de Silva 55, Kavinda Ratnayake 38, Deneth Lanka 29, Thanusha Weragoda 23; Tharindu Liyanage 5/45, Daminda Weerakoon 3/56) and 54 for 1 wkt in 8 overs (Ramesh Ranasinghe 31 n.o., Jayapadma Tennakooon 14 n.o.; Tharindu Liyanage 1/22).
