Sylvestrians lose in rain-hampered match

Most people in Kandy welcomed the light evening shower except the Sylvestrians who were victims of the Parabola System in their limited-over cricket match against Dharmaraja at Lake View.

The Rajans made a decent total (228) thanks to a fine innings of 79 (9 fours, 1 six) by their captain Deneth Lanka. Chandimal de Silva, too, came good with their Big Match three days away. Ratnayake and Thanusha Weragoda (28 not out) got much-needed practice.

The Sylvestrians were on 89-5 in the 21st over when the match was called off. Indunil Samarananda made a useful 34 while Parakrama Tennekoon chipped in with 25.

Scores:

Dharmaraja 228/7 in 50 overs (Deneth Lanka 79, Chandimal de Silva 51, Dharusha Weragoda 28 n.o., Kavinda Ratnayake 21, Rameesh Ranasinghe 16; Nimesha Mendis 2-39, Sumedha Dissanaike 1-42)

St. Sylvester’s 89-5 in 20.3 overs (Indunil Samarananda 34, Parakrama Tennekoon 25; Deneth Lanka 3-29, Venaka Galahitiyawa 2-11).
