Dharmaraja’s left-arm spinner Venaka Galahitiyawa (match bag of 13-92) set up an exciting finish on the second day of their match against Maliyadeva at Lake View.
Bowling out the visitors for 100 in their second knock, the hosts were left with a tempting target of 145 in 36 overs.
Rajitha Lahiru, Deneth Lanka and Kavinda Ratnayake went at it hammer and tongs. However, Sarinda Dassanaiake and Sachindra Peiris kept chipping away the wickets to stall Dharmaraja’s progress. Maliyadeva’s skipper Kusal de Silva had a good batting double (67 and 35).
Galahitiyawa came to his team’s rescue in the first innings, too, when together with Kavinda Ratnayake they took the score from 115-8 to 160.
