Sapumal Tennekoon (76 not out in 139 balls) and Venuka Galahitiyawa (24 in 71 balls) were the Rajans heroes as they combined in a last wicket stand of 75 to thwart Antonian ambitions at Katugastota yesterday.
Perhaps the Antonians let the game slip away through some unimaginative bowling changes and field placings. Yet no credit should be taken away from the batting of Tennekoon and Galahitiyawa who came together at 154 when the team needed 45 more for a win.
At least four other Rajans got starts, but didnot go on. Skipper Gunasinghe and left-armer Mahindaratne gave it their best shot, but it wasn’t good enough.
The mentally weary Antonians lost three quick wickets in their brief second essay.
