Late distinguished Old Rajan Kariyawasam was born in 1924 and was 89
years when he expired. In 1941 he was a member of the 1st Eleven
Cricket team that defeated TRINITY for the first time. He scored 50
runs in the total of 190. Team was captined byT.B.Talwatta, father of
Priyantha Talwatte who also cptained Dharmaraja later. He was awarded
College colours for Cricket , Soccer and Athletics. His athletics
career started in 1939 when he came first in the under 16 Long Jump
event at the Sports Meet. In 1941 he was First in the 880 yds event
at the Sports Meet. Being a brilliant student, he won the Class Prize
in 1941. At University, he represented the U in Cricket, Soccer,
Tennis, Voley Ball and Athletics. Being an all rounder, in 1937 he
acted in the school play " Ayesha " staged at Wembley Theatre,
Nawalapitiya ,Kurunegala, Nuwara Eliya and Matale to raise funds for
School Development. He also acted in the plays Kala Banda, Mayadunne,
Vijaya, Ashokamala, Gajabahu and Game Magula staged at the Bogambara
Carnival in 1937.
This was in the Kularatne era.
He retired as Director of the Metrological Department. After
university too he pursued his sports career. He was the President of
CT& FC for many years. He functioned as the Chief Time Keeper National
and International No.20, 2nd Lane, Ratmalana. Funereal will take place
