The following is a personal note by retired SSP S. Sivebdran who captained Police Rugby, on this great man.
"M Sathasivam was a rare breed where cricket is concerned. My batch mate when I joined the Police in 1958 was Dhanasiri Weerasinghe, who was also my room mate whilst under training. He too was a stylish batsman who captained Ananda College and played for Sri Lanka. He told me that before he joined the Police he played for the champion Mercantile team against the Rest team captained by F C de Saram in which team M Satha too played. Satha had come late for the match after a night out drinking and dancing. F C de Saram had by then won the toss and was awaiting the arrival of Satha to bat. When Satha arrived he opened batting with Satha and Dhane said it was champagne cricket that he saw, whilst fielding for the Mercantile team with both Satha and FCde Saram sending them on a leather hunt. He had never seen a better innings than the century Satha scored that day with FC de Saram scoring some minty runs. Dhane now lives in Melbourne.
During the sixties Satha used to frequent the CR&FC and Havelocks SC and I used to enjoy his company with drinks and fun. He also used to invite me to his house at St Albans Avenue in Bambalapitiya, where we enjoyed to the maximum. We will never see another Satha in our life."
