RAJANS RE-WRITE RUGBY HISTORY BOOKS

WIN SCHOOLS’ 7 A SIDE RUGBY PLUM IN SRI LANKA -2012

Dharmaraja won the Schools’ Sevens 2012 held at the Royal College rugby grounds over the week end 4th & 5th March, beating home time rivals Kingswood College 19-17 after a ding dong battle. This was the pinnacle of 42 years of Dharmaraja Rugby history. In this tournament Rajans played with exceptional grit and determination throughout to the very end. On their way up to the Finals they beat:

St. Thomas/ Matale - 52-00
Maliyadeva/ K'gala - 55-00
Quarter Final/ Vidyartha - 20 - 17
Semi Final/ St. Peters- 15-12
Final/ Kingswood - 19-17

Tilina Wijesinghe who had a great game scored two great tries. Udanagamuwa scored the other try post lemons after a 50 meters dash. Kingswood too scored a try in the last minute, but they filed to convert the it.

With this win Rajans established themselves as a Power among the Rugby playing schools in this country. This achievement was the result of the great dedicated campaign for maintenance and improvement of Rugby at Darmaraja by the Old Rajans Rugby association powered by Old Boy Indika de Zoysa through the past so many years. This result was greatly facilitated by the unstinted support and interest evinced by Principal S. M. Keerthiratne. However this result would not have been possible if not for the significant contribution of messers, Wijesiri the coach and Mr. Alexander the Master in Charge. They succeeded in instilling in the team the motivation with a 'Do or Die approch. We salute them all.
