Shamilka Wickramathilake and Deon Fernando led powerful bowling and batting displays as S. Thomas’ beat Dharmaraja by seven wickets to enter the quarter-finals of the Inter School Under-17 Division I cricket tournament at Mount Lavinia on Tuesday.
The home team made light work of a target of 149 runs as Fernando scored an unbeaten half century to win with 13 overs to spare. He scored four fours and a six in his knock (85 balls) while Kishan Munasinghe, who took two wickets early, provided company with an unbeaten 22 runs.
Ravindu de Silva (36) and Dilmin Rathnayaka (24) also contributed with useful runs.
Deciding to bat first Dharmaraja were shot out for 148 runs as Shamilka Wickramathilaka spearheaded the attack with a four wicket haul. His six overs cost just 25 runs.
While Dulaj Bandara top scored for the visitors, Danuka Marasingha and Isuru Dayananda entered 20s.
S. Thomas’ will now meet Nalanda (who beat Maliyadeva in their pre quarter-final) in the quarter finals.
