The Dharmaraja Under 17 team lead by free-scoring left-hander Dulaj Bandara meet their Thomian counterparts today at Mt. Lavinia in a pre-quarter final clash.
Left arm spinner Upendra Warnakulasuriya and Thushan Herath (another of his kind) have been their most successful bowlers. Their efforts were chiefly responsible for the Rajans winning almost all their matches.
Among the batsmen Isuru Dayananda and opener Janith Chaturanga have been the key performers. Yasith Samararatne has done well in an all-round capacity.
Dharmaraja beat St. Sylvester’s, Kingswood, Vidyartha, Sri Rahula and lost to Trinity in the first round. They beat St. Peter’s Negombo and St. Thomas’ Matara in the second round, but lost to the Anthonians.
A leading club cricketer of the 1970s and 1980s, a tidy off-spinner in his day. U. S. C. Perera has been guiding the Rajans this season.
The Dharmaraja squad:
Dulaj Bandara (capt.), Upendra Warnakulasuriya, Isuru Dayananda, Yasith Samararatne, Thushan Herath, Sahan Wijeratne, Dhanuka Marasinghe, Sashrika Kiriella, Janith Chaturanga, Chetiya Weerakoon, Dhanuka Dissanaike, Janindu Yapa, Anjana Dikkumbura.
