Disaster management training for scouts at Dharmaraja

The SERTORA 2018, Scout Emergency Response Training of Rajans, a special training programme for disaster management will be held from 21st to 23rd September 2018 at Lakeview Park International Scout Centre, Dharmaraja College, Kandy.


The first ever disaster management training program for scouts is organised by the 1st Kandy Dharmaraja College Scout Group and Old Rajans Scout Association under the patronage of Ministry of Disaster Management and National Disaster Management Centre to mark the 105th anniversary of Kandy Dharmaraja Scout Group.


The emergency management or disaster management is the organization and management of the resources and responsibilities for dealing with the humanitarian aspect of emergencies. The aim of this training program is to aware the participant scouts are how to reduce the harmful effects of all hazards, including disasters said Brigadier Athula Ariyaratne, Director, National Disaster Management Centre, Sri Lanka (NDMC).


Measures that prevent or reduce the important of disasters, planning, training and educational activities for things that cannot be mitigated immediate aftermath of a disaster, the Director of NDMC further revealed.


Over 700 boy and girl scouts who have completed the District Commissioner Award and boy or girl scouts who are over 18 and below 24 years of age are permitted to participate the camp and practical and theoretical knowledge on disaster management.
