Dharmaraja College players try desperately to prevent Isipahana from scoring a try during the Singer ‘A’ Division rugby tournament match at Royal College grounds yesterday.
Isipathana College continued their winning momentum in Singer ‘A’ Division rugby tournament 2018 beating Dharamaraja College by 42-14 points at Royal College Sports Complex, Colombo yesterday.
The winners scored seven tries, two conversions, and a penalty kick while the visitors managed only two converted tries. The home team led 23-07 at half-time.
After a close win over DS Senanayake College last week, Isipathana needed to put up an improved performance while the Rajans playing their first game of the season were disappointing in every aspect of the game.
The hosts scored three back-to-back tries inside the first 20 minutes as captain Manilka Ruberu, Ashan Gunasekara, and Janith Serasinghe touched down for Isipathana College.
The Rajans hit back immediately as Manuka Hiyarapitiya made a dazzling run to score their first try which was well converted by skipper Bawantha Udangamuwa.
Ravindu Anjula extended the Isipathana lead with a penalty kick but just before the half-time whistle, winger Nadeesha Chaminda scored the fourth and bonus point securing try for the boys from Havelock Town.
After the 10-minute break, Dharmaraja looked organized in defense as they did not let the Isipathana boys score a single point for almost 25 minutes but a late flurry of tries ensured Isipathana finished on a high.
Udangamuwa touched down late in the game for the visitors but it was not enough as Isipathana ran out winners in a one-sided affair.
Skipper Ruberu scored his second try while Pium Ediriweera and Nadeen Basik put their names on the score sheet as Isipathana put up a commendable show in front of a huge crowd.
Full-Time: Isipathana 43 – Dharmaraja 17
